Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Jiu Jitsu loosely translates to "gentle art". It is an unarmed, hand to hand style of grappling. Jiu Jitsu emphasizes turning an attacker's own force against them and putting them off balance to disable an attack. Jiu Jitsu also involves certain grappling moves and strikes to vital areas.
Even though Brazilian Jiu Jitsu contains stand up techniques for winning a fight, it is famous for its devastating ground fighting techniques. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was specifically developed to allow a smaller person to defeat and defend against a larger person by sophisticated application of leverage and technique.
Here at The Dojo, we focus on a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu system that provides a full set of self defence techniques for both men and women that are used against common attacks. These attacks include, but aren't limited to, headlocks, bear hugs, hair grabs, and defences against a possible rape. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a wonderful complement to a stand up based Martial Art such as Karate. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu combined with Karate will develop a stronger, more balanced and complete Martial Artist.
